Deep Science Hackathon 2019 – 7 Teams in Final

Deep Science Hackathon 2019 took place during 15-17 February 2019, 2nd of such kind in Latvia.

Hackathon brought together international participation of more than 60 people. All 7 teams that reached final presented interesting ideas and science based technology projects.

10 ideas


Ideas represented such topics as – Smart skin (skin sensitivity imitating solution for robotics and other applications), GetUp (electronic muscle system integrated into fabric of clothing to support standing up for people suffering from back pain), CoWow (cow non-invasive health monitoring for early disease detection), Adaptix (adaptive optics solution for telescope and other image correction), Breeze (compact air quality monitoring appliance), Rubbru (rubber based non-slip road material from recycled tyres), Balance board (active sitting pad for deep muscle training for lower back).

Teams got the support for further ideas development from sponsors – Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, Latvian Space Industry Association, Social Business Accelerator “New Door” and Commercialization Reactor.

 

Jury of Deep Science Hackathon 2019


Mentors and jury members were representatives from Sweden, Italy, Ukraine, Latvia. Event was conducted together with partners, including Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, Latvian Space Industry Association, Social Business Accelerator “New Door”, Commercialization Reactor, Latvian Banking Academy, RISE and KTH Innovation, Latvian investment development agency | Magnetic Latvia.

 

Teresita Qvarnstrom (RISE), mentor and jury: “An excellent meeting point were enthusiastic, creative people join competences and develop innovative ideas in a wonderful energizing and motivating atmosphere!”

Lauma Muižniece (Magnetic Latvia, Banking School lecturer), mentor: “A very good way to exchange ideas and create interdisciplinary teams. From different sectors the viewpoint is different, and this is where you can look at the idea from different perspectives. This is a significant added value for the further development of the idea.”

 

Next, 3rd Deep Science Hackathon, is planned for 7-9 February, 2020.
