State Visit on Science-Industry Cooperation with Germany

Materize participated in the business forum and company visits promoting science-industry collaboration between Latvia and Germany during the state visit of President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis in Germany on 25 February 2019.

The purpose of the visit was to present the opportunities offered by Latvia in the areas of smart cities, smart materials, biomedicine and robotics. German businessmen and scientists showed great interest and desire to develop further cooperation.

Business Forum “Magnetic Latvia”


Business Forum “Magnetic Latvia” was hosted at Handelskammer Hamburg and was opened by the President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, André Mücke, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hamburg and Andris Ozols, Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA). State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics Ēriks Eglītis presented Latvia’s offer for the development of innovative products and joint scientific projects. The forum continued with two working groups (ICT: Smart Mobility, Electronics and Aviation; and Life Science, Research and Development).

The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Latvian Association of Information and Communication Technology and the Hamburg@work Cluster was also signed. The document covers joint activities, projects, and exchange of information on digital technologies. In addition, LIAA and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) signed a letter of intent for the forthcoming contract to implement the project “Commercial Analytical Research Organizations Transnational Strategy (CAROTS)”.

During the visit, a meeting with the research institute Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) and the research institution European XFEL was introduced. Materize was visiting also Philips Medical Systems and Airbus Operations.
